When I was about 5 years old, I remember watching a movie with my family that started to get very suspenseful… I was terrified for the characters, but I couldn’t stop watching! I stood up on the couch, leaned against the back, and start running in place. My dad asked me, “should I change it? Is it getting too scary?” to which I would always reply, “NO!” — I had to see what was about to happen.

I consider moments like that little bits of magic. At that point in time, I didn’t care about anything in this world, just about the story I was watching. I was in it… I felt like I knew the characters. I loved with them, I hated with them, I survived with them.

Whenever I tell a story, no matter the medium, it is my goal to bring this connection, this place of escape to my audience. If I can help even one person experience the same level of connection I share with the characters in my favorite stories, I have succeeded!
